The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the human body. Since it relies only on the surrounding muscles to hold it in place, it is inherently unstable. There are four common types of shoulder injury: rotator cuff injury, dislocation, repetitive stress injury and brachial plexus injury.
Rotator cuff injury
The rotator cuff is actually a set of four muscles that hold the shoulder joint together. Common in some sports, rotator cuff injuries can also result from car accidents, workplace injuries and slip and fall accidents. Minor injuries can be treated with rest, while more severe cases may need surgery. In very severe cases, there may be permanent damage.
Dislocation
Dislocations occur when trauma to the shoulder causes the muscles surrounding it to weaken and tear. This allows the top of the arm bone to pop out of the shoulder socket. In severe cases, nerves can be damaged. Once a person has dislocated his shoulder, he is prone to dislocating it again in the future. If this happens repeatedly, the joint can become weak and very unstable. Treatment is first aimed at maneuvering the shoulder back into place. Afterward, the joint is usually immobilized for three to six weeks, followed by physical therapy.

RSI can be quite insidious, often taking years to manifest with pain and other symptoms. It can cause a progressive loss of strength and flexibility, as well as degenerative conditions such as tendonitis and arthritis. Pinched nerves can also occur, causing weakness in the arm. Treatment depends on severity of the injury.

Real results matter. We do not get paid unless we win your case.
Available 24 / 7|Free ConsultationThis type of injury involves damage to the brachial plexus, a network of nerves that transport signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm and hand. It can happen in accidents where the shoulder is wrenched downwards, or the arm is forced above the head. It causes pain and loss of use of the affected limb. Minor cases resolve on their own, while more severe cases require surgery. Sometimes, there is permanent damage and disability.
